▪︎ PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING ▪︎
Cold. Cut to an indistinct arena in Rome, Italy. It is packed with just over 1,000 fans and they are on their feet. But you hear nothing. Despite the energy and enthusiasm of the Italian fans, there is no sound. The camera keeps scanning the audience and the fans are rabid. This carries on for a few moments--
Humble pyrotechnics roll down the ramp and the sound is initialized. All at once a thousand voices fire out of your speakers and you get the full effect of the anticipation that PANGAEA has inspired. The shot finally lands in the ring where we see the official ring announcer Smoke Perkins and he is living up to his namesake. He's smoking. The ballyhoo dies down and the audience let's Perkins speak. Those who are watching him on the projector screen are treated to Italian subtitles.
Smoke Perkins: "Why are you here?"
Perkins poses this question in a gruff, gravely voice. Most of the people in the audience are perplexed by the question. Perkins takes a drag off of his cigarette and it continues.
Smoke Perkins: "Don't all answer at once. I know why you are here. You people are here because you love professional wrestling. You want to see the best athletes on this planet compete in the best environments and for the utmost respect. You are here because you are fucking tired of the ridiculous circus that most North American companies like to parade around in front of you. Well I have good news--PANGAEA is not a North American company. We don't call Canada, Mexico or the United States home. Nor do we call Japan, England or even Italy home. PANGAEA is a truly global promotion. We are based out of planet Earth."
The audience pops a beat after his final word. Subtitles, you know?
Smoke Perkins: "My name is Smoke Perkins. I am more than just a ring announcer. I speak for the proprietors of PANGAEA and I believe in what they want to do with this company. Tonight is the beginning of a worldwide movement that will see a true wrestling company rise to prominence. We don't care about who is fucking who, we don't care about the competitor's children and family, we don't care about their prospective modelling careers or any of that other bullshit. We hire wrestlers. We hire people with passion. Some of them may not be the best in the world just yet...but they fucking will be. Here at PANGAEA we care about competition."
Perkins takes another long drag and smirks, his confidence palpable.
Smoke Perkins: "To the fans in the arena. To the fans watching via our streaming service. To the fans yet to discover us--tonight PANGAEA Professional Wrestling shows you what this industry is like at it's best. We have gathered fifteen of the world's most promising professional wrestlers to start this journey with us."
The Italians take a beat and pop again. They want to see professional wrestling, they are tired of the North American version of wrestling.
Smoke Perkins: "Tonight, the World War for Wrestling begins. Tonight PANGAEA fires the first shot."
With that pyro explodes again, this time rolling back up the ramp and going off at the top of the stage. The lights drop and Perkins fades into darkness, only the cherry of his cigarette remains until it goes out.
BOOM!
